A trip down memory lane – 46 years of Wests
1908/1909 – History
The story begins back in 1908/1909 with the original rugby league team of Campbelltown; the Kangaroos (then known as the Wallabies). This was the first and longest running football club in Campbelltown.

1972 – Notice of Construction
In support of the Kangaroos, Campbelltown was to have a new licensed sporting venue, the Campbelltown City Rugby League Football club limited. The Campbelltown City Rugby league Club administered the local Kangaroos football club, and the major objective to foster the code of rugby league in the region.

1974 – The OG
The Campbelltown City Rugby League Club officially opened in 1974 with a vision of not only supporting the Campbelltown City Rugby League Football Club but also to encourage community sporting events throughout the local Macarthur region. On opening the Leumeah club with approximately 430 members.

86s – Change breathes new life
Wests Ashfield brings the Western Suburbs Magpies to Campbelltown, with Orana Park (now Campbelltown stadium) the newly appointed home ground for the team. They bring with them funding that sees the name of the Club changed to Western Suburbs league Club, (Campbelltown) LTD.

1995-1999 Wests Sports Council is established
Wests, known as the Home of Sport in the local region, has been committed to encouraging sporting activities amongst children and young adults since the inception of the Wests Sports Council in 1999 (with origins in 1995). Wests prides itself on providing sports teams with annual sponsorships, donations and recreational support to inspire the game of sport.

1997 – Grand Re-opening
Celebrations took place for the major refurbishment and building extension of Wests League Club in 1997 with a huge community launch party community with loads of family entertainment, performers from Campbelltown’s El Caballo Blanco and Street Parade.

2000 Refreshing times The Club undergoes another major transformation in the same year the Wests Tigers play their first home game at Campbelltown stadium

2007 –2012 A New Era
Wests amalgamated with the Tennis Club in 2007 offering members access to multiple tennis courts, a tennis shop, function room and a popular Chinese Restaurant. Wests then went onto amalgamate with Lakeside Golf Club Camden, located on Raby Road in Catherine Field and The Country Club, located in Gledswood Hills. Both Lakeside and Country club offer a sophisticated experience for members with a unique dining experience, a platinum TAB & sports bar, alfresco area, private dining and function rooms and of course, the popular Golf Course at Lakeside.

TODAY
Wests has come a long way since the humble beginnings and is now considered one of the premier dining and entertainment groups in South West Sydney. Wests Group Macarthur, proudly owns and operates 4 venues including Western Suburbs League Club (Pictured), with each unique venue offering first class facilities, great service and variety of dining options.
In 2020 Wests has a membership base of 75,000 + members and 350 + staff and a continued focus on the game of sport in the Macarthur region and beyond.
