Wests turns the ‘Porchlight’ on for Blue Wren House

Posted at 06 Jun 2021

Wests Group Macarthur is proud to become the first official partner of the Blue Wren House – Camden Women’s Shelter (BWH CWS) The Porchlight Program ahead of their Shelter opening in November 2021.

The demand for crisis accommodation is high in Australia with more than 56,000 women homeless each night and more than one in two turned away from crisis accommodation due to limited spaces. Once complete, BWH CWS will feature a completely refurbished three-bedroom cottage as well as a brand new two-bedroom second dwelling on site that will provide safe, supported accommodation for five women and their dependent children who are escaping domestic violence or homelessness.

Wests Group Macarthur has committed to $20,000 per year for three years to the BWH CWS The Porchlight Program which exists to help cover expenses associated with keeping the Shelter operational each year. Aside from the food and accommodation expenses, the funds, delivered via ClubGRANTS go towards caseworker management, medical, legal, educational, and other crucial support programs needed for the Women and Children to start anew.

Scott Taylor, Chair of BWH CWS comments on the tangible difference the funds will make sharing, “A commitment of this amount translates to covering a portion of the funding required for our vital case workers who will help with women and potentially up to 60 children across the three-year period. The funds will make a huge difference to the lives of countless number of people relying on shelter services”.

He continues,The Board is so grateful for the incredible generosity of Wests which helps guarantee we can keep the welcoming porchlight lit and deliver the comfort and security to those escaping desperate or DV situations.”

Wests Group Macarthur Executive team member Leanne Craig comments, “Wests Group Macarthur is honoured to be an early supporter of The Porchlight Program and provide funding for both the launch and longevity of this important project.his is an incredibly worthy cause, and we feel very strongly about the impact the program will offer to those most vulnerable”.

BWH CWS are currently seeking support of local businesses, tradespeople, and suppliers to assist in the finishing touches to the restoration and opening of the shelter. If you know a business who might be interested in being involved, please visit www.camdenwomensshelter.org.au.
