”Lockdown” Love Squared! Knit to wrap Macarthur in love
Our 2021 Winter appeal will be extended for anyone who was still interested in donating winter goods with the plan to finalise once our doors re-open.
Due to the lockdown our planned volunteer knitting day ‘Love Squared’’ on the 9th of July has been cancelled for 2021. However, if you are looking for a great isolation activity and know how to knit beanies, scarves of squares – Please do!
Here is the perfect pattern to create 10’’ squares that when donated will go on to create wonderful winter blankets for those in need.
Tips
Squares can be knitted or crocheted
We suggest 8 Ply yarn and 4mm ( No 8) acrylic needles
Remember to check your tension to make sure your square measures 25cm (10inchs)
Start each ball of yarn at the beginning of each row, and sew in ends and don’t cut your ends too short.
Knitting a standard square
Cast on 50-55 stiches and knit each row plain i.e garter stich. Don’t knit one row plain and one row purl ( stocking stich) as your square will curl.
When the edges of your work measure 25cm (10 inches) cast off.
Knitting a square on the diagonal
Cast on 3 stiches
Row 1 : K1. Increase 1 in next stitch, knit to end of row
Repeat Row 1 untuil side measures 25cm (10 inches)
Next Row: K1, K2 together, knit to end of row. Repeat this row until 3 stiches remain. Cast off
